When Functional Aesthetics Meets The Warmth Of Life

A good chair is the encounter of design wisdom and the poetry of life; it is also a relaxing, supportive role when the whole family has close contact. How to design a chair that can allow people to embrace fatigue and relax their bodies has always been the unremitting pursuit of Xinchi people. Our initial idea was to combine the aesthetics of human body functions with the warmth of life.

Ergonomic Chair Design: The Temperature Code in Rational Design

Xinchi's design pursues the most delicate care for people, integrating functionality with aesthetics. Xinchi's design has never been simple and cold formulaic. In this regard, the Scandinavian design school has conducted in-depth research. They have infused the core concept of "simple yet not simplistic, practical yet aesthetically pleasing" into every chair - the natural grain of wood is retained, materials such as rattan and linen bring a sense of breathing, and soft organic lines replace sharp geometric cuts.

The Y-shaped chair by the Danish design master Hans J.Wegner is a prime example. Its inspiration comes from the Chinese Ming-style round-backed armchair, but the backrest innovatively supports the lumbar vertebrae with a "Y" shaped structure, and the seat surface is woven with natural hemp rope. In summer, it is breathable and heat-dissipating; in winter, it avoids the cold. The arc of the armrest just supports the arms when they are relaxed. This is not only a reference in form, but also a humanistic care that transcends cultures.

The MISTER BLISS stool, designed by Philippe Starck, has pushed functional aesthetics to the philosophical level. The three soft pads precisely correspond to the force-bearing points of the buttocks and knees, and the metal frame decomposes the human body weight through triangular mechanics. This work, completed by the designer at the age of 33, is both an innovation in Western ergonomics and a comfort improvement of the Eastern tradition of "sitting upright" - allowing the blood flow to remain unobstructed even in a kneeling posture. The collision between the hard metal and the soft cushion reveals a gentle care for the body.

Dining Chair Comfort: A Daily Revolution

The temperature of the dining chair is eventually perceived through daily use. Unlike THE living room, the sofa emphasizes THE lazy FALL. THE COMFORT OF the dining CHAIR IS MORE ABOUT THE PRECISE grasp of "short stay"- the time of a meal, THE afternoon of a casual chat, IT needs to keep the body appropriately awake, not overly tired. Therefore, we chose the seat surface material as a key variable. We have the following three types of materials for selection:

Leather cushion: A dinner that offers immediate and soft support, suitable for long sitting and chatting.

Rattan woven hemp rope: Breathable and elastic, a refreshing choice for summer dining

Track surface: Such as the S-shaped curve of the panton chair, it is integrally formed to fit the natural arc of the spine

The delicate balance of dimensions also holds mysteries. The seat height of an excellent dining chair is usually maintained at around 45CM, creating a 27-30 cm drop compared to a standard dining table (72-75cm high), ensuring that the thighs can rest naturally flat. The seat is about 40CM deep, and the knee crease is just one fist away from the edge of the chair to avoid pressing on the blood vessels. Behind these figures lie countless observations and optimizations of the actions of "sitting down" and "getting up".

The most easily overlooked yet most influential aspect of the experience is the respect that dining chairs show for the spatial circulation. The cantilevered chair legs prevent bumping into others when getting up. The rounded corners make the steps passing through the kitchen passage more leisurely. The lightweight chair body can be easily moved with one hand - these details turn functional aesthetics into real convenience in life.

    Individuality Expression in Mix-and-Match Chairs

Xinchi also pays attention to the recent trend of mix-and-match. When dining chairs go beyond their single functional role, they become carriers of residents’ aesthetic expression, bringing new vitality to the area around the dining table.

Successful mix-and-match follows some inherent rules:

    • Round table chairs inclusiveness more suitable for style clashes, while long tables require symmetry and restraint.

    • Material dialogue in chairs: Rattan weaving paired with solid wood, leather combined with metal.

    • A maximum of three chair types: Avoid visual clutter in the same area.

A chair with an outstanding design can become the centerpiece of a space. For example, the Nice dining chair by the Italian brand Poltrona Frau features a backrest and frame layered and bent like origami, covered in Pelle Frau soft leather, exuding the warmth of handcrafted minimalism.

    Timeless Emotion in Classic Chairs

The vitality of a classic chair lies in its ability to carry memories that transcend time. A Thonet chair may have witnessed grandparents’ wedding, while the colorful Eames Molded Plastic chair still welcomes new guests at a modern café.

These chairs endure because they balance three key values:

    • Functional durability of chairs: Solid structure and easy-to-repair design.

    • Aesthetic universality of chairs: Stripped of fleeting trends, maintaining timeless form.

    • Emotional inclusiveness of chairs: Adaptable to different body shapes and usage scenarios.

When children climb onto their father's lap to read picture books together, and when old friends sit around the dining table chatting until late at night, the form of the dining chair fades into the background, and the comfort and ease nurtured by the considerate design have quietly settled into the cornerstone of life memories.

In the twilight of the restaurant, the lights cast warm spots on the rattan chair backs. Grandmother slowly sat down, her palm touching the warm wooden armrest - the Y chair that had accompanied the family for twenty years had long lost its brand-new luster, but the arc still gently supported her slightly hunched back. A classic in the history of design, at this moment, is just an ordinary piece of furniture that provides a place for the laughter of grandchildren.

Good design is not merely about visual poetics; it lies more in how it communicates with the body and empowers daily life. When a chair allows us to relax our shoulders and necks during a hasty breakfast in the morning and provides a stable support when sitting alone late at night, it has completed its transformation from an "object" to an "emotional medium" - this is the ultimate temperature of functional aesthetics and also the gentle fulcrum of home.
